The food industry is an important sector in the state and has led the manufacturing industry as the industry with the highest turnover for many years. In 2021, almost 25,000 employees worked in companies that produce food, animal feed or beverages. The food industry is therefore one of the most employment-intensive sectors in Saxony-Anhalt.
